Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Paras Ram, son of Lodi Ram was born on 08-01-1924 in Port Blair. He was a school teacher. He joined the Indian National Army (INA) on the first call given by Hira Singh alias Usman in June 1942 at the Local Borns Association ground at Port Blair. His active participation soon made him Commander of the INA Andaman Branch. During the visit of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, he led the troop at the airport for the Guard of Honour. He also led his troop in giving the Guard of Honour to Netaji during his hoisting of the tricolor at Gymkhana Ground on 30-12-1943.

After the formation of the Azad Hind Government, the INA continued and expanded under Capt. Alvi and Lt. Suba Singh, while one troop under the command of L. Paras Ram was kept ready to meet the further requirements. When one INA member was arrested he was also arrested and he had to face brutal torture in jail. After Independence, he was made Deputy Superintendent of Police. He took his last breath on 02-01-1971.
