Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Bhagwan Singh, son of Durga Singh was born on 05-08-1900 in Junglighat. He was the grandson of Mangal Singh Dogra, a mutineer of the First War of Independence 1857, who was brought here on transportation. On the formation of the Indian Independence League (IIL) in 1942, he was an active member. Subsequently, he was elected as Chairperson of the Junglighat Village Committee of the League. He along with other members actively participated in League’s activities during the visit of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in December 1943. After Netaji’s departure, he was arrested and interned in the Cellular Jail. He had to undergo severe torture in jail. He was again arrested in July 1944 and after a month of torture he was released. He died on 09-01-1983.
