The name of Jairam Tiwari is inscribed on the Homfraygunj Martyrs Memorial “Balidan Vedi”

Jairam Tiwari, son of T. Siri Ram was born in Port Blair. He was settled at Aberdeen village in South Andaman. He joined the Indian Independence League (IIL) and was elected as Executive Member of the IIL. He was arrested and interned in the Cellular Jail. During his imprisonment, he received inhuman torture. On 30 January 1944, he was shot dead by the Japanese Firing Squad and buried in an ‘L’ shaped mass grave with 43 others at Homfraygunj in South Andaman. A memorial ‘Balidan Vedi’ has been erected in memory of them at the spot where they got martyrdom.
