Harnam Singh was deported from Punjab on transportation to Andaman. He was settled at Dundas Point in South Andaman. He was a compounder. He joined the Indian Independence League (IIL). He was arrested and interned in the Cellular Jail. During his imprisonment he received inhuman torture. On 30 January 1944, he was shot dead by the Japanese Firing Squad and buried in an ‘L’ shaped mass grave with 43 others at Homfraygunj in South Andaman. A memorial ‘Balidan Vedi’ has been erected in memory of them at the spot where they got martyrdom.
