Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

Motilal Jagirdar

Sylhet, Assam

September 04, 2023 to September 04, 2024

Motilal Jagirdar was a resident of Sylhet. He was the secretary of the Silchar Town Congress. He was concerned about Chandpur (Sylhet) decoys, absconded to Sadia, and was found in the forest office in 1934. He was the election agent of Babu Santva Ahir for the Labour constituency, and the campaign was followed by several disturbances. His methods were to go to the tea gardens as an unemployed relative of the Babus and stir up trouble and foment complaints. Under cover of anti-Fascist activities, he was attempting to organize further disturbances on the principle that the British government is after all as bad as fascists. He was the most determined of the young agitators in Cachar and was the only one there to find a fruitful field for agitation under the patronage of Chanda. The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar recommended his detention under Rule 26. There was a fire in the M.E.S. dump near the railway godown in Silchar. Someone set fire to the thatch roof of one of the Tazra sheds. This was suspected to be a deliberate act by some congressional sympathizers. That’s why the Deputy Commission of Cachar recommended taking action against Jagirdar.
