Gandhi Jayanti celebrations held in Australia

The community joins in paying humble tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest proponent of peace and non-violence, on Gandhi Jayanti. Bapu's favourite bhajans were presented by Sanskriti Seniors group, Ms Durba Bhattacharjee and her students, and Ananya Giridhar & Satheesan on violin and mridangam. Spiritual bhajans on dholak were recited by Pt. Vimlesh Shukla while Mr. Brennan, who has been influenced by Gandhiji's thoughts since the age of 10, recited Sant Kabir's bhajans to the accompaniment of music on Dufli. The event showcased harmony and devotion within the Indian community in WA. Shri Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Managing Trustee of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, delivered a message through recorded video. The event was beautifully emceed by Ms Nishtha Nupur, a community language teacher.
