Dedication of 220 kV Dimapur GIS SS, Nagaland to the nation on 73rd Republic by Powergrid

Ministry of Power

January 26, 2022

Powergrid Dimapur AIS (Air Insulated Substation) was constructed in the year 1994 and extended in subsequent years. Recently, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid), a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power, Govt of India has successfully commissioned/upgraded from more than 25 years old 220/132kV Dimapur AIS Substation to GIS (Gas Insulated Substation) with additional 2 x 160 MVA, 220/132kV Transformation Capacity to reduce maintenance and increase reliability & quality of power.

Powergrid 220/132kV Dimapur GIS Substation is dedicated to nation on 26th  January 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) being celebrated under Govt of India across the country. This system shall strengthen the power transmission network for Nagaland state in particular and other North Eastern States in general. The present Transformation Capacity of Dimapur Substation has been increased to 420MVA from existing 200MVA.

GIS Substation occupies less space compared to Air Insulated Substations (AIS) Substation, More reliable compared to AIS, number of outages due to the fault is less and Maintenance Free.

This Substation will increase reliability & quality of power in Nagaland and other neighboring states of NER.

Powergrid is “Maharatna” Central Public Sector Enterprise and India’s largest Electric Power Transmission Utility presently has 264 Sub-stations and 172,192 Ckm and 469,607 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, Powergrid has been able to maintain average transmission system availability >99%.
