Murli

Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh

March 29, 2024 to March 29, 2025

Murauwa, a quaint village nestled at the foothills of Nepal within the Hardithana of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, boasts a legacy of courageous sons who played pivotal roles in India's fight for independence. Among them shines Murli, a beacon of bravery and resilience.

Born to the Chittu in Murauwa, his humble beginnings in a farmer's family did not deter his aspirations for serving the motherland. His education, initially acquired in the village, instilled in him values of truth and integrity, nurtured through his father's tales. These narratives ignited a fervent patriotism within Murli, propelling him towards the forefront of the freedom struggle.

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and VinobaBhave's calls for action, Murli joined the Individual Movement spearheaded by VinobaBhave and Jawaharlal Nehru in 1940. His dedication led to his arrest and subsequent six-month imprisonment in Naini jail, accompanied by a hefty fine of 20 rupees in 1941, at the hands of the British colonial rulers. Despite enduring the cruelty of his captors, Murli emerged from incarceration undeterred, continuing his revolutionary efforts upon release. Murli passed away in his hometown in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh.

Freedom fighter I’d card issued by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1989.
