Sadhu Sharan Singh

Jehanabad, Bihar

March 28, 2024 to March 28, 2025

Sadhu Sharan Singh was born on 5 August 1919, in Mai village of Kako block in Jehanabad district, and was a pivotal figure in the freedom movement. Despite being enrolled in Whitty School, Jehanabad, he was drawn more towards the cause of India's independence than academic pursuits. When the Quit India movement ignited, he fervently embraced it, swiftly transitioning from student life to activism.

Living near the Patna-Gaya railway line, Singh and his comrades orchestrated attacks, uprooting tracks near their village and targeting the Jehanabad Court halt. However, these actions led to his arrest in October 1942, charged with involvement in anti-British violence. Subsequently, the SDO court of Jehanabad sentenced him to two and a half years in prison and 15 cane strokes. Despite facing imprisonment and physical punishment, Sadhu Sharan Singh remained firm in his commitment to the freedom struggle and lately was offered a pension document by the Govt. of India in 1998.

Sadhu Sharan Singh passed away on 30 August 2019.
