Prasadi Lal

Karauli, Rajasthan

May 03, 2024

Prasadi Lal emerged as a revered figure in the freedom struggle within the Karauli district of Rajasthan. Born on 7 November 1919, in Hindaun City, Karauli, Rajasthan, he hailed from a humble farming background, with Murlidhar as his father and Chandaniya Devi as his mother. Despite limited resources, he received his early education within his family, later advancing to complete his schooling up to the tenth grade in a nearby government institution.

It was during this phase that Prasadi Lal became acquainted with prominent leaders of the Prajamandal, including Vaidya Magharam Pradhan, Lakshmi Dass Swami and Bhiksha Lal Bohra. Encouraged by their ideologies, he actively engaged in the freedom movement, utilizing his position as a teacher to enlighten children about the injustices perpetuated by British rule and to galvanize support for the cause of independence.

Despite warnings from the British administration, Prasadi Lal fearlessly persisted in his activism, which led to his arrest and subsequent brutal treatment at Jaipur Jail. Refusing to succumb to intimidation, he endured the harsh conditions with unwavering resolve. Upon his release, he resumed his involvement in the freedom movement alongside fellow Prajamandal members.

Following India's independence, Prasadi Lal transitioned into the role of an Inspector within the Police Department. He dedicated himself to the welfare of farmers and labourers, assuming leadership positions within organizations like the Kisan Mazdoor Sangh. In recognition of his significant contributions to the freedom struggle, the Rajasthan Government bestowed upon him a prestigious Tamar Patra on October 2 1987.

Prasadi Lal passed away on 25 March 1991.

Tamra Patra was awarded by the Government of Rajasthan in 1987.
